Au Petit Tonneau

It's a small traditional restaurant close to the Seine and the Invalides. Here is a bistro that meets the promise of a french, traditionnal and authentic cuisine.
The welcome is genuine and the food is tasty. The pans are made of copper which is a good clue. The Chef makes his own sauces. Which is rather rare nowadays in Paris.
Au Petit Tonneau is a restaurant run by women. Arlette, the new boss took over the business in October 2011. She admits to having spent hours on the benches talking cooking with her friend Ginette Boyer, the former boss at the head of the bistro during 35 years.
Arlette continues to offer the same delicious recipes. The boss hired a talented young chef who spent three years in the kitchens of the Bristol Palace. It combines the know-how to the requirement of quality products.

The menu at Petit Tonneau is concentrated around a few classics of French cooking. In Hors-d'œuvre for example, salmon, scrambled eggs with truffles, snails of Bourgogne, saute of wild mushrooms (depending on availability), œufs meurette (poached eggs with red wine sauce) or lentils with crayfish.

Among the specialties, the veal chop veal and its juice (above) is truly excellent. Many customers only come to savour its tenderness and its juice. But there is also the rib steak with Roquefort ( famous french blue cheese) and the veal kidneys in Madeira sauce, not to mention the veal stew (€ 18) another classic of the house. And the Chef cooks also with brio some fish such as codfish and sole.
He also expresses his talent with the accompaniments of the dishes. Its ratatouille is crispy and expressive in aromas.
Finally for dessert, the chocolate mousse is one of the best in Paris. It is also tasty as lightly but its Tarte Tatin is simply perfect.
